New Projects 23/12/2008

For all schools in LAP 3/4 and LAP 7/8.

The Children's Society are offering the chance for pupils from your schools to get involved in participation projects in the new year.  The projects use fun, interactive methods to support children and young people to

  • influence decisions about issues that affect them
  • improve their self esteem and self confidence
  • develop teamwork and communication skills and focus on presenting a final artistic product representing their ideas to decision makers

What TCS needs form schools:  a venue to hold sessions, a member of staff to support to co-deliver sessions, (after school) and help to identify a suitable group of children (up to 15), collect completed parental consent forms and take on some organisation within the school, (reminding children on the day for instance!).

What TCS will provide:

  • 2 project workers who will plan and prepare sessions, including all resources and refreshments.  (A further project worker from Tower Hamlets will attend).
  • Certificates and vouchers for all children and young people who attend
  • Meaningful opportunities for children and young people to engage - projects from the first stage have fed their ideas back to Young Mayor, Olympics team and Play team (Tower Hamlets)
  • Supported learning and development opportunity for your staff member
  • A final project report.

Further details are included in the attached document.  To take part please contact Paul Crozier using the contact details below - initially we would like to meet with schools to discuss the projects and put arrangements in place to start projects the week beginning 12th January.  Due to the Christmas holidays nearing we will respond to schools on a fist come, first served basis.

Filming and Photography! 22/10/2008

·        Are you a young person age 14 or over who wants to gain or improve skills in Film and Photography and are from Tower Hamlets?

·        Do you want the chance to work with tutors who have graduated from The London Film School and are now London filmmakers?

·        Could you interview older people to find out what really went on at Kingsley Hall and Bow before you were born?

·        Can you capture the events on film that happen in Kingsley Hall today so we can archive this and build our history?

If you can take part in two workshops and One whole day event we would like to hear from you! The footage you take will be edited and made into a DVD!
